Prologue: In a nation teetering on the edge, where the shadows of deception, despair, and destruction loom large, the Church of America stands at a pivotal crossroads. The time for passivity is over — Faith must become coupled with informed and decisive action. This introduction to a series, penned from the vantage point of a seasoned military warrior, calls the Church to rise, reclaim the spiritual and moral ground, and face the encroaching darkness with unwavering unity and resolve. The intent is to lay the groundwork for a renaissance—a revival of primacy and influence, empowering the Church of America to seize the initiative on the spiritual battlefield and shape society with truth and righteousness once more…
A Journey of Grief and Healing: In 2015, the sudden and traumatic loss of our oldest daughter, Elizabeth, to suicide thrust my family and me into unimaginable grief. Elizabeth’s passing marked the sixth loss in my family from suicide and self-harm. I found her just as I had found my father back in 1984 when he took his own life. The devastation was indescribable, but my family and I were determined to find meaning and purpose in this senseless act of hopelessness. We surrendered ourselves to countless counseling sessions and embraced the vulnerability needed to heal. With each step forward, our mission and purpose became clearer.
Personal Growth and Purpose: Then in 2018, shortly after reporting for my last tour of duty at a command in San Antonio, Texas, the pieces of our mission began to fall into place. My career in the United States Navy was defined by mastering the highly technical art of complex information delivery systems integral to military operations globally. Rising from junior Sailor to senior enlisted, I earned the rank and title of Chief before being selected and commissioned as a Naval Officer. As an officer, I delved into Strategic Communications, where my understanding of information systems evolved into a broader, more impactful realm. I was trained and qualified as an Information Warfare Officer, merging technical, operational, and strategic disciplines.
The Domains of Warfare: Before reporting to my final command, I enrolled in a course at the Joint Forces Staff College, where I was introduced to the highly specialized field of Information Operations. This field merges the disciplines of Psychological Warfare and Influence Operations, maneuvering across three key domains: Physical, Information, and Cognitive.
- Physical Domain: The Physical Domain involves the tangible elements of warfare—troops, equipment, and terrain. It’s not only the ground on which battles are fought and physical force is applied but also encompasses the physical aspects of our everyday lives, such as infrastructure, transportation, and even our daily work.
- Information Domain: The Information Domain is the realm of data, communication networks, cyber operations, the internet, and social media. It’s where information is gathered, processed, and disseminated, influencing both the physical domain and our decision-making processes.
- Cognitive Domain: The Cognitive Domain, the most elusive yet most critical, focuses on the human mind. This is where beliefs, values, and attitudes are shaped and influenced. Mastery of this domain means impacting how individuals and populations think, making it a powerful tool in psychological and influence operations.
Integrating Faith and Warfare: This course prepared me for my final assignment before retiring from active duty. In this role, my personal experiences intersected with professional knowledge, revealing how the core axioms of my faith aligned with my work in Information Warfare. As I delved deeper, I began to see that the Spiritual War described in the Bible by Paul seamlessly meshed with my military art of Information Warfare. I realized that the current plethora of resources available to Christians about Spiritual Warfare is missing crucial and key components, namely the strategic aspect of warfare that leverages the specialized attributes and capabilities of Information Warfare. I began to see how the cosmic battle for the human soul is fought using the tactics, techniques, and procedures outlined in military doctrine.
Writing and Advocacy: In the fall of 2019, as these insights became clearer, I started writing blogs, which later formed the chapters of my book, “HOPE: a memoir – My Journey of Love, Loss, and Faith.” With the support and mentorship of special individuals, I released the book in May 2021. Following the release of the book, my wife and I started a non-profit organization in Elizabeth’s honor, focused on raising awareness about suicide prevention and helping those impacted by suicide.
A Call to Leadership: As I approached the twilight of my military career, the personal battles I had faced, the skills I had honed as a warrior, and the events unfolding in our nation—particularly the Church of America’s response—ignited a fire in my soul to become a voice of leadership and change. Serving at a command singularly focused on the study and application of Informational Power—the intake, impact, and influence of information in all its forms on the human mind and its downstream long-term effects on individuals, communities, and culture—combined with my faith and personal experiences of losing six family members to suicide and self-harm, led to a profound realization. The vision became clear: I would leverage my unique blend of professional expertise and deeply personal experiences to become a beacon of hope and a catalyst for change.
Mission to Equip and Empower: I realized that my calling is to serve as a Strategic Agent for Change, helping usher in a paradigm shift and renaissance for God’s People in the United States—the Church of America. My mission is to help equip Christians—both leaders and laymen—with the knowledge and skills needed to reclaim the territory Heaven has entrusted us to steward. It has become a crusade against the encroaching darkness that has claimed so many lives dear to me. For the sake of our children and the honor of our King, we must rise and face this battle head-on. The passive posture of The Church must end. We are called to a higher purpose, to a divine duty that demands our unwavering resolve, intellectual horsepower, situational awareness, strategic savvy, and collaborative effort. This is our moment to stand firm, to fight back, and to illuminate the path forward with the light of truth and righteousness. The stakes have never been higher, and failure is not an option.
Observing a Nation in Crisis: In 2020, these revelations crystallized into a laser-focused understanding and fervor. From a front-row seat, I watched the global pandemic sweep across the globe and our nation, followed by the havoc of civil unrest during the summer and fall preceding the presidential election. My informed perspective gave me unique insight into the chaos that eroded and assaulted the very foundations of the nation I had sworn to serve and protect. The bold maneuvers by hostile actors and adversarial entities to demoralize and destabilize this nation and my homeland tore at my heart—but more distressing were the reactions from the one group singularly authorized, deputized, and commissioned to face and cull these threats head-on: The Church of America.
The Church’s Reaction: Pandora’s Box had been opened, unleashing a two strike campaign, and the very people who claim to have Holy Spirit-enhanced discernment didn’t see it coming. In the first strike, houses of worship shut their doors in feckless compliance with tyrannical mandates. Believers became swept up in the fearmongering and partook in shaming those who dared push back against the party line of masking up, getting a vax, and staying home. With the hearts and minds of God’s People primed by the adversary, the blow of the second strike was ruthlessly unleashed with surgical precision. In May of 2020, during an incident involving law enforcement, a man encountered a critical intervention that unfortunately led to fatal results. A fuse was lit, and mayhem unfolded. As rioters, anarchists, and criminals burned and pillaged across America’s metropolitan centers, prominent names in American Christian culture retweeted hashtags in support of an openly anti-Christ organization, providing a megaphone for people and entities who actively seek to induct a hedonistic and communist agenda in the United States. Caught up in the frenzy, the very people who professed to serve only the King of Kings literally bowed their knee to a fraudulent slogan and narrative intended to tear apart the very soul of the nation they were called to steward and care for.
Unmasking the Orchestrated Chaos: Having a qualified understanding of the specific influences and factors at play, I was staggered by what I witnessed. I knew that what was unfolding across this nation was intentional, strategic, and coordinated. My professional vantage point provided me a unique understanding that this maelstrom was the result of specific elements being choreographed in precise proportions and at specific times—all with nefarious intent and outcomes. The most concerning part was that so many of God’s People, including those in leadership, could not see the forest for the trees. Instead they became witless pawns in a game of mass formation psychosis; where large groups of people collectively adopt irrational beliefs or behaviors, driven by shared emotions and social pressures, and more importantly…against their own interests.
The Current State of The Church: The Church of America, long seduced by the comfort of routine and blinded by an inward focus on branding and social clout, has been caught reeling back on its heels during this season of upheaval. Christianity in America has come to a point of reckoning. Decades of blind and stubborn allegiance to denominational dogma and a plethora of local fellowship egos, brands, and programs, all deeply embedded in The Church of America, have resulted in a generation of Believers woefully unprepared for the sifting that had been, and still is being, unleashed. Fear, pressure, and ego have collided — and personal courage has become the casualty. Sadly, some have succumbed to the pressure and capitulated. They’ve actively played into the deception and became unwitting proxies for promoting the adversary’s malign agenda. Others have tried to skirt and avoid the issues and negotiate their way into avoiding the problem, which in reality is just another form of compliance and consent.
Moving Forward: Fast forward about four and a half years and our nation is now at a precipice. Severe damage has been done, and unfortunately, many in Church leadership, who were initially duped but may now see these things for what they really are, have still failed to openly apologize for their lack of courage, discernment, and promotion of a malign agenda. During the testing and under pressure, they caved, influencing many under their watch to do the same. Therefore the problem of pride, ego, and narrow-mindedness prevails, paving the path for components of a spiritual mind virus which has infected many of those who claim to be Christians; and this infection has been a prime factor leading to the intellectually anemic, strategically atrophied, and spiritually immature posture of many American Christians—and thus the current state of our nation is a direct result.
The Stakes Have Never Been Higher: Crime and hedonism plague our cities. Economic decline erodes our financial standing. Our domestic security has withered. Perversion and confusion prey on the minds of our young. Depression, self-harm, and suicides are at an all-time high. For me, the current condition of our nation comes as no surprise—we were warned about this. It’s the outcome of a simple yet profound truth: “When the Godly are in authority, the people rejoice. But when the wicked are in power, they groan” (Proverbs 29:2). The critical question is this: When will the Godly decide it’s time to resume their rule?
A New Mission: In 2021, I retired from active duty and transitioned into my new life outside the uniform I had worn for over two decades. The knowledge and skills I’d earned, combined with the journey of my personal life, became an amalgamation of purpose and passion singularly focused: Inform, Train, and Enable God’s People to seize the initiative and resume their rightful duty as stewards, influencers, and Heaven’s voice of primacy, making a positive and lasting difference so that the lame may walk, the blind may see, the deaf may hear, and the dead may live again.
So Now What? This blog series will draw upon decades of military expertise, including doctrine, tactics, techniques, and procedures, all vectored through a Biblical lens. Commonly heard verses will be presented to provoke an eye-opening understanding, compelling strategic and decisive action among God’s People, with a specific focus on The Church of America.
I spent over twenty years serving this special place I and many of us call home. In my operational travels, I’ve been to places never as richly blessed or entrusted with this fragile experiment in self-governance — instead, they are lands where oppression and tyranny run deep, and darkness prevails. In contrast, we, The Church of America, inherited something special from those who went before us, many of whom were fellow Brothers and Sisters of our Faith. Flawed as they were and stained to be sure, God still used them to forge a beacon of hope and a powerful conduit for the spread of the Gospel unlike the world has ever seen.
Exploring the Role of the Church: I ask that you join me on this reading journey, show me some grace, and embark on a quest to discover how you and I, together as The Church of America, can execute our duties as citizens of a Higher Kingdom. As we embark on this poignant exploration of the Church of America’s influence on the nation, it is vital to grasp the deep and enduring connection between our nation’s current condition and our posture as The Church of America. Central to this exploration is a scripture deeply cherished yet perhaps not fully comprehended by many American Christians: 2 Chronicles 7:14. It declares, “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” Unfortunately, the profound gravity of these words often seems diluted in casual recitation.
Seeking Transformation: What does it genuinely mean to humble ourselves, to pray, to seek God’s face, and to turn from our wicked ways? What should the visible, tangible outcomes of these actions be? This blog series is poised to rigorously solicit answers to these questions, to challenge the entrenched methodologies long adopted by local fellowships, to unravel dialogues among Christian circles, and to vigorously shake long-held beliefs throughout the entire Body of Christ in America. We will dissect a series of trends and initiatives that have critically shaped the posture of the Church of America as we know it today, delving into their origins, evolutions, and the profound impacts they wield on both the church community and the broader American society.
Confronting Long-standing Perceptions: Our journey through this series will confront various facets of the Church’s approach—from religious legalism and denominational tribalism to pseudo-supernatural mysticism, the word-of-faith movement, the televangelist phenomenon, mega-church consumerism, celebrity pastor phenoms, and beyond. We’ll unpack the long-standing perceptions about the Church’s role in culture, including academics, the arts, the sciences, civics, and yes — politics. And we’ll do a deep dive on current perceptions of what is commonly known in many Christian circles as Spiritual Warfare and provide game-changing insights into how and where this cosmic battle is really waged.
A Call to Action: Join me as we delve into these pivotal issues, striving to understand how the actions and inactions of God’s people in America have steered us towards our current national crisis, and exploring what can be done to realign with the foundational principles that promise true healing and transformation for our land.
This series seeks not just to enlighten but to stir hearts and provoke a reawakening to the call that as God’s People move, so moves the Nation.
